Description
There is a stillness to real katan silk that no other fabric quite manages, and this sunflower yellow piece captures it beautifully. The base is a deep, saturated yellow, the kind that photographs like liquid gold in daylight, scattered with delicate silver floral motifs that catch light rather than compete with it. The border and pallu open into a dense, intricate brocade in matching silver tones, woven directly into the silk rather than printed or embroidered afterward, the way real Banarasi work has always been done. This is a saree meant for the day that actually matters, a wedding, a milestone celebration, the kind of occasion where you want your outfit to hold its own for years in the retelling. As with every Woh Chali Banarasi piece, the tassels on this saree have been finished entirely by hand by the same artisans who wove it, a detail most brands leave for the customer to sort out later or skip altogether. Fold it with care after each wear and this is a saree built to be worn by your daughter one day, not just by you.
The Craft
This saree is handwoven in pure katan silk by weaving families in Benaras, using techniques passed down through generations at the loom. The silver floral motifs are woven directly into the fabric during the weaving process itself, not printed or embroidered on afterward, which is what gives Banarasi silk its distinctive depth and shine. A single saree like this can take several days to weeks to complete, depending on the intricacy of the border. The tassels have been finished entirely by hand by our artisans, a labour intensive detail we include with every Banarasi piece rather than leaving it for you to arrange separately.
