Description
This is the saree in the collection that does not ask to be noticed quietly. A vivid peacock electric blue katan silk base is covered edge to edge in a dense silver jaal, a wave like net pattern that moves across the entire body rather than sitting in isolated motifs, giving the fabric a sense of motion even when it is standing still. The border breaks the pattern with a rare multicoloured touch, pink, yellow, and green threadwork woven alongside the silver, framing large medallion motifs before the pallu opens into an even denser silver panel. This is a saree built for the biggest day on the calendar, a wedding reception, a sangeet where you are meant to be seen from every angle, an event where more detail is exactly the right amount. Very few Banarasi pieces combine this much silver work with genuine colour in the border, which makes this one of the most opulent pieces we offer. Every tassel has been finished entirely by hand by our artisans, ready for its moment the day it arrives.
The Craft
This saree is handwoven in pure katan silk by master weavers in Benaras, using an all over jaal technique that requires silver zari thread to be worked continuously across the entire body rather than in isolated repeats, a considerably more demanding process than a scattered motif design. The multicoloured threadwork in the border, worked in pink, yellow, and green alongside the silver, adds a further layer of complexity rarely seen outside the most elaborate Banarasi pieces. A saree of this density can take considerably longer on the loom than a simpler bordered design. Every tassel is finished entirely by hand by our artisans as the final step before it reaches you.
