Not every motif in Banarasi weaving comes from a flower or a peacock. This piece carries the pineapple, a rarer, more storied choice that once symbolised hospitality and abundance in royal courts, and it feels entirely at home here against a warm marigold orange base. Fine cream pinstripes run quietly through the body while clusters of cream pineapple motifs bloom across the pallu and border, catching light without ever needing gold to do it. This is a saree for the woman who has already worn the expected reds and pinks and wants something that still photographs like a celebration without repeating what everyone else is wearing to the same wedding. The colour works beautifully under both daylight and string lights, shifting from warm gold to deep amber depending on the hour. As with every Woh Chali Banarasi piece, the tassels on this saree have been finished entirely by hand by the artisans who wove it, ready to wear from the moment it arrives rather than something you need to sort out yourself before the function.
The Craft
This saree is handwoven in pure katan silk by weaving families in Benaras, with the pineapple motifs worked directly into the fabric using a technique that requires careful planning before the weaving even begins, since a repeating figural motif like this is more demanding than a simple floral repeat. The fine pinstripe texture running through the body is built into the weave structure itself. Every tassel on this saree is finished entirely by hand by our artisans, a labour intensive final step we complete before the saree ever reaches you, rather than leaving it for you to arrange separately.
