Description
Turquoise is a difficult colour to get exactly right, too blue and it reads cold, too green and it loses its shine, but this saree lands precisely where it should. A rich turquoise base carries a fine white floral block print in careful repeat, with the pallu opening into a detailed panel of paisleys and peacock inspired motifs, bordered by a warm gold zari edge that keeps the whole piece feeling celebratory rather than casual. Wear it for a daytime function you want to feel a little dressed up for, or an evening where the lighting will do the colour every favour. As one of our richer soft silk sarees in feel, if not in fibre, this piece drapes with real fluidity, moving easily through a long day of standing, sitting, and dancing. The banana silk keeps it breathable even in warmer weather, and the gold border pairs beautifully with both silver and gold jewellery, so you are not locked into one styling direction. This is the kind of saree that photographs as well up close as it does from across a room.
The Craft
The floral and peacock inspired motifs on this saree are created through Bagh block printing, using hand carved wooden blocks and an organic, vegetable dye process to achieve the turquoise tone entirely without synthetic colourant. Each motif is pressed individually by hand, and the denser pallu panel required significantly more block work than the body’s simpler repeat. The zari border is woven into the fabric during production, adding lasting texture rather than a printed shine. Woven from banana silk, a plant derived and biodegradable fibre, this saree also arrives with a complimentary cotton saree cover to help protect the colour between wears.
