Description
Blue this rich deserves a saree that does it justice, and this one does. A deep, almost electric blue base is layered with a lighter periwinkle raw mango print scattered edge to edge, bordered by a warm gold zari edge that keeps the whole piece grounded rather than cool. This is a saree with real presence, wear it to an evening reception, a sangeet, or any celebration where you want the colour to do some of the work for you. As a party wear silk saree option, it strikes an unusually good balance between rich and wearable, holding its own under evening lights without feeling heavy on the body. The banana silk keeps it light enough to dance in, sit through a long dinner in, and still feel like yourself by the end of the night. As a saree look for a wedding guest, it photographs particularly well against warm, low lighting, so save it for the evening half of a two part wedding rather than the daytime function. This is the kind of blue that makes people ask where you found it.
The Craft
The raw mango motifs on this saree are created through Bagh block printing, using hand carved wooden blocks and an organic, vegetable dye process that produces the tonal depth between the electric blue base and the lighter periwinkle print. Each motif is pressed individually by hand, which is part of why no two lengths of this fabric print in quite the same way. The zari border is woven into the fabric itself during production, rather than added afterward. Woven from banana silk, a plant derived and biodegradable fibre, the saree stays light despite the richness of its colour.
