Product Description
Pastels rarely get to feel this substantial, but lilac in pure katan silk manages it. The base is a soft, cool lilac with a natural sheen that shifts gently depending on the light, scattered with delicate gold floral motifs woven into the body rather than sitting on top of it. The pallu and border carry a denser silver and gold brocade, giving the piece enough presence for a daytime wedding function without ever tipping into loud. This is a saree for the woman who wants softness and structure in the same drape, someone attending a mehendi or a daytime reception who still wants to feel dressed for the occasion. The tassels have been finished entirely by hand by the artisans who wove this piece, the kind of detail that quietly signals a saree was made with real care rather than assembled quickly for volume. Pair it with pearls or oxidised silver for something cooling, or warm gold for a little more contrast. Either way, this is the rare pastel that photographs as beautifully in person as it does in soft daylight.
The Craft
This saree is handwoven in pure katan silk by weaving families in Benaras, with the floral motifs and border pattern worked directly into the fabric during the weaving process. Achieving a shade as precise as this lilac requires careful control over the silk yarn dyeing before it ever reaches the loom, since any inconsistency would show clearly against such a light base. The silver and gold brocade border is woven, not printed, giving it a texture you can feel as well as see. Every tassel on this saree has been finished entirely by hand by our artisans, a labour intensive step we include with every Banarasi piece as standard.
